If you arrived on this page, it means that in the past you have experienced this situation, or that you are probably experiencing it now without having found an effective solution.

We all know how complex the topic of cone rectification is, and certainly I won’t tell you anything new by telling you that producing components with the presence of vibration has many negative aspects, and none positive.

I report below the most common that our customers encounter and that surely you have also found:

 

  • Pieces rejected because obviously not compliant.

  • Tool breakage

  • Early bearing wear

  • Machine stop (maybe the most painful note. If the machine does not produce obviously you do not invoice!)

  • Production Loss

  • Staff frustration due to a situation not under control.

 

Maybe in the worst case scenario it all happens when you are producing for a new customer on which you have put all the effort possible to make a good impression.

But when is it necessary to rectify the spindle cone?

In most cases this occurs either as a result of collision , possibly due to a malfunction or incorrect settings of the software that manages the movements, and / or to the wear of the spindle cone ; itself because maybe the machine has been in production for years and tool change cycles have exceeded millions and millions of cycles.

As a result, it is therefore necessary to restore the coupling , the repeatability between the spindle cone and the spindle itself , and the reduction of the run-out .

Normally the need to rectify the spindle cone requires disassembly, grinding in the workshop, assembly and reassembly in the machine with relative replacement of the bearings, in addition to a considerable machine stop.

IAM SRL is able to perform grinding with spindle cone, which does not require the replacement of parts and disassemblies and which involves a machine stoppage limited in time rather almost non-existent as in most in some cases the machine becomes operational again on the same day.

The cone grinding ensures the restoration of the couplings , the repeatability between the spindle cone and the spindle itself , and the run-out reduction on boring machines, milling machines and machining centers ..

 

After ensuring the restoration of the spindle cone, we perform the following final tests :

 

1) verification of the coupling of the spindle cone with certified pads.

2) relief of run-out error and parallelism with test bar 300 mm from spindle nose.

3) Tightening stroke control of the tool locking pliers.

4) measurement of tool holding force with digital load cell.

 

The purpose of this intervention is to greatly improve the accuracy of the run-out in order to delay the replacement of the spindle itself, and to avoid prolonged machine downtime .
